Everyone has a certain amount of body fat.  It is an important feature of our body as it is one of the main sources of energy that allows us to function and without it we would find it very difficult to remain active for over 20 minutes.  Cellulite is a condition, found predominantly in women where fat tissue becomes hard and lumpy and difficult to remove.  It can be found mainly on the outer thighs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, midriff and the back of the arms.  In men it can also be found evenly distrubuted around the waist.  The culprits are weight gain, genetic predisposition, and inevitable hormone changes throughout life.  Massage can help to reduce both normal adipose tissue and cellulite:

  • Deeper movements stimulate blood flow around the area softening area and speed up the removal of fat.
  • A combination of techniques focusing upon venous return and lymphatic drainage speed up the removal of waste from areas.
  • Massage increases nutrient and oxygen rich blood into the area increasing the metabolic rate of the area reducing the stagnation of fatty cells.
